Who is Slow Beer?

Slowbeer is believed to be the only beer retailer in Australia 100% devoted to the sale of quality beer and cider. No wine, RTDs, spirits or industrial beers can be found on our shelves! We stated life as the specialist on-line beer retailing arm of Cloudwine Cellars, a fiercely independant wine merchant with 2 stores in Melbourne - Brighton and South Melbourne. The purpose of this site is to enable everone to access our large and diverse range of boutique beer. (At last count we had surpasssed 600 beers!).

Our beer store opened in Hawthorn, 4km to the east of the Melbourne CBD, in September 2009.

Cloudwine Cellars is believed to be the only fine wine retailer in Australia exclusively devoted to the sale of small producers from Australia and New Zealand. We commenced operations in Decemeber 1999 as a pure on-line retailer and expanded operations in October 2002 with the opening of our South Melbourne store. A second store was opened in Camberwell (9km east of the City) in July 2004 and our 3rd store opened in Brighton in December 2005. We have since sold the Camberwell store.

Through the extensive supplier relationships we have built through Cloudwine we thought we'd be crazy not to leverage this experience into the sale of high quality beers, not only from Australia, but from many countries around the globe.

What's with the Name?

We wanted a name or image that related closely to concepts of quality, passion for the pursuit of perfection in the art of brewing and, where possible, a focus on small producers.

Some of you may have heard of the 'Slow Food' movement that originated in Italy, a now global group committed to the promotion of quality food (and wine) that displays a strong and authentic sence of local or regional identity, and that also supports or adheres to local traditions. We figured that many of the beers we were looking to promote and sell exhibited similar qualities, that is, they had a strong sense of identity with regard to region and authentic style.

Pricing Policy

Pretty simple really. We strive to offer the best prices first time....no smoke and mirrors. Because we are confident our single bottle pricing for many of our high end beers are the best in the country. We do however, offer an additional 10% discount for all orders of 12 or more items. We encourage you to compare the prices of our major competitors in Melbourne and Perth.....you will quickly find we are a dollar or 2 cheaper on most bottles!
